September is a great month for shopping. I’ve moved into a new house (new decor required), student loans are in (new purchases are actually possible) and I’m kicking off my third year as a fashion student (new clothes definitely needed). So, in true ‘I have one day in uni this week’ style; I have spent my last few days checking the new in pages of my favourite stores and hunting out things that I’ve convinced myself I need for a new year.
I absolutely love minimal jewellery and a scroll through Instagram fills me with ideas for simple yet elegant earrings, rings and beyond. I love low-maintenance jewels that I can either throw on with any outfit or, in the case of earrings, keep wearing without adjustment for weeks. I picked up a couple of new pieces recently from two of my favourite fashion stores, which just so happen to stock limited yet perfectly designed jewellery collections.
I’m not quite the person that needs to Snapchat or Tweet about every time I go to the gym but I do seem to find myself talking about it a whole lot of the time. Why? Well, it’s most definitely not because I know what I’m doing (I’m still working on that bit) so I guess it’s because I just kinda like it. I like the feeling of working my absolute hardest at something, I like seeing myself improve and most of all, I really like the post-work out feeling. Being able to walk out the gym a hot, sweaty mess and know that you’ve done something with your day that your body will truly thank you for, is all the motivation I need.
Remember that hype around sweet potato brownies a few years back when ‘Paleo’ became trendy? I may have only just got round to giving my first batch a go but to be completely honest, I was scared that they would just taste like, well, potato. Whilst these aren’t ever going to trump a super gooey chocolate-y brownie, they are most definitely worthy of their hype considering the ‘healthy’ ingredients involved. My brownies turned out to be super rich and indulgent but despite feeling like a sweet treat, they had a slightly earthy taste (not a bad thing, promise). So, if you fancy trying something a bit different and surprising your friends when they attempt to guess the main ingredients, then this is definitely a recipe to have a go at.
The September issues are out and the shops are slowly filtering in their autumn and winter stock. The sight of a rogue winter coat rack on the shop floor or a mannequin styled with beanies and scarves always gets people fretting at thought of dressing for cold and rainy days when we’re still enjoying the August sunshine. Reality is, if you want to get ahead of the AW16 wardrobe game then it’s time to start shopping, and who’s complaining at that? Here’s my top five trends for you to buy into NOW.
This week I’ve been testing out La Roche-Posay’s latest release, the Effaclar Duo[+] Unifiant*. This BB-cream type product claims that it will not only even out your skin tone and cover redness immediately, it will actually help your skin’s overall appearance with long-term use. It’s the perfect follow-on product from the all-hailed Effaclar Duo[+], which I’ve used and loved for many years myself. It’s time to see if the Unifiant can live up to expectations because what’s not to love about a make-up product that your skin will actually thank you for?
Moving into a new house is definitely one of the most exciting parts of heading back to uni. It’s exciting to live only upstairs/ next door to the people you’ve spent all summer missing (at least it is for the first few weeks anyway) or to move into totally new surroundings and play out your expectations of what uni life is all about. Whilst I can only dream of jumping back two years to re-live my first two years at uni and once again experience the responsibility-free life of a fresher, I can still get excited at the prospect of returning to education for another year. Even if that’s only to transform a new blank-canvas room into my next home from home.
It might just be another off-the-shoulder look but this t-shirt has already seen me through many summer outfits over the last few weeks.
Whilst the hype around coconut oil continues, I wanted to remind you of, or maybe introduce you to, the amazing powers of argan oil from Morocco. It may have had a surge on the beauty scene a few years back but after experiencing the farming process first hand this summer, my appreciation of the so called ‘elixir of youth’ has massively recharged. Understanding the benefits and uses of argan oil might just put it back on your beauty radar too.
