Finding opportunities to gain experience in the fashion industry is notoriously difficult and often extremely competitive therefore I was grateful for the opportunity to participate in an ‘Ideas Hack’ day run by Spark+Mettle at the London College of Communication.
The aim of the day was to work with groups of like-minded individuals to fulfil briefs set out by two different fashion start up companies. The task I found myself working on was about finding ways of monetising a newly launched fashion app, ASAP54. The app itself relies on the latest in visual recognition technology and I enjoyed the chance to work on ways of developing the app as well as having the opportunity to present our ideas back to a member of the company, who was there to support us throughout the day.
My family holiday to the beautiful Greek island of Kos was a week filled with long, hot days at the beach, food in bohemian cafes, cocktails in beach-front bars and many amazing sunsets.
I had never been to Kos before this summer although I knew what to expect from previous holidays to Greek islands. Think: 35 degree heat, clear blue seas, white sandy beaches (travel brochure style), amazing food and stray cats sleeping around every corner.
Aside from the sunsets, which were best enjoyed sitting on the sand with a drink in hand, one of my favourite things about where we stayed in Kos was the view of the mountains that I can only imagine rival the Hollywood Hills.
Cardigan, Oasis | Top and Jeans, Zara | Pumps, Primark
It may be August but I am still wearing jeans and long sleeves thanks to the typical English weather. This striped, long-line cardigan is one of those items that I often forget I own but then I always love how it looks when a put it on- especially over a plain outfit such as this one. The grey and black colour scheme also makes it very easy to style as it matches most of the other items in my wardrobe. I chose to wear a pair of light colour jeans and tan pumps to brighten up the look although a long cardigan also works well with leggings or dresses of a similar length.
