This week I’ve been testing out La Roche-Posay’s latest release, the Effaclar Duo[+] Unifiant*. This BB-cream type product claims that it will not only even out your skin tone and cover redness immediately, it will actually help your skin’s overall appearance with long-term use. It’s the perfect follow-on product from the all-hailed Effaclar Duo[+], which I’ve used and loved for many years myself. It’s time to see if the Unifiant can live up to expectations because what’s not to love about a make-up product that your skin will actually thank you for?
The Effaclar Duo[+] Unifiant is targeted at those who find themselves in the vicious circle of wanting to improve the appearance of their skin with make-up, only to get more blemishes as a result of wearing more make up. La Roche-Posay, the French skin care brand loved by the pharmaceutical industry, believe that they have the solution. By combining the benefits of the Effaclar Duo[+] with a sheer, mineral pigment; the product helps create a clear and even skin tone, whilst simultaneously targeting the imperfections in your skin for long-term results. Sounds ideal right but how do they do it?
If you somehow missed the hype around the Effaclar Duo range then the key benefits (in the least scientific manor) that you need to know are:
– Anti-inflammatory (reduce redness)
– Anti-bacterial (reduce your chance of spots forming)
– Normalise sebum (help with oily skin appearance)
– Prevent and treat post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (clear up spots, quick)
Along with all of that good-stuff mentioned above, the Unifiant contains a pigment to offer a sheer and mattifying coverage. The product should be used as part of your daily make-up routine and acts as a BB-cream, replacing your need for a foundation. The formula comes in two shades only (light and medium), with the lightest colour matching my fair skin perfectly i.e. definitely not suitable for tanned or dark skin. It is worth mentioning that the coverage is very sheer and whilst this contributes to the natural, ‘non pore-clogging’ feel, the product may not be favoured by those used to the air-brushed finish of heavier foundations.
Firstly, I was massively impressed by how well the colour matched my skin tone as I rarely find that products with such a limited colour range extend to my shade of pale. I was also unsure about using a product targeted at oily skin but I found the formula to be light enough and not too drying (although it is still worth ensuring your skin is well hydrated before using). I don’t wear foundation on a daily basis and although I definitely noticed the benefits of adding a light coverage to even out some of the redness, I think I’ll stick to plain-ol’ Effaclar Duo on the day-to-day, until the times when my skin needs a little extra help.
