A new clothing brand on the scene always gets me excited, especially when I get the opportunity to find out more at a Christmas themed launch (complete with mulled wine and cupcakes, may I add). Joanie Clothing were the hosts of the evening and I was invited along to find out more about their ultra feminine and playful brand that puts a vintage twist on the modern wardrobe.
The event itself was at Sugar Junction: a concept tea room in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. In other words, the PERFECT fit for a Manchester-based Vintage brand. With a seemingly never-ending flow of prosecco, afternoon tea and cakes, we had the chance to get hands-on with their clothing collections. Along with the lovely bunch of people that were there, I even tried out a calligraphy class because, why not?! Calligraphy verdict: very, very hard.
Admittedly I was relatively unfamiliar with Joanie Clothing prior to the event, however a preview of their latest range firmly introduced me to their feminine aesthetic and playful designs. Their array of party dresses and skirts perfected the 1950s silhouette, whilst their collection of jumpers and blouses had a more modern twist. The standout pieces for me on the evening were the ‘Maybe baby’ jumper (coming soon in black YAY), a sheer polka dot blouse complete with peter pan collar (also coming soon, I believe) and a gorgeous black skater dress with beaded embellishment.
Whilst I wouldn’t have aligned my personal style to the brand on their ‘vintage-inspired’ premise, I can ensure you that there are plenty of pieces I would love to get my hands on. In other words, don’t let ‘1950s’ and ‘girly’ put you off if that’s not your thing.
The rather generous goodie bag that we received on the night has left me with a couple of new brands to explore, including skincare from Flint + Flint and stationary from Ohh Deer. Not forgetting the delicious macarons courtesy of Time For Sweet Pea, which unfortunately didn’t last long enough to be pictured, can you blame me though…?
Massive thanks to the lovely girls at Joanie Clothing, I can’t wait to see what the brand has to offer in the future.
