The SS16 Lingerie Edit

Lingerie Moodboard

The lingerie trend, as seen across the spring/ summer 2016 catwalks from the likes of Givenchy, Céline and Balenciaga is admittedly one of the hardest to master with style and grace this season. Without finding yourself in an outfit that you’d be ashamed to greet your Grandma in, the key is to cleverly pair statement lingerie pieces with wardrobe classics. Think about thoughtfully exposing lace straps with loose fits and layering sheer fabrics for effortless sophistication. You know you’ve nailed the trend when you dress up by dressing down.

Below are three looks centered around this season’s statement lingerie pieces and styled in collaboration with Farfetch to provide some inspiration for putting the ‘underwear as outerwear’ trend into practice.

Look 01. Gothic Romance

Faith Connexion’s sheer lace bodice is the centre piece of this dramatic, evening look. Combining the off-the-shoulder style neckline with a black choker nods to the gothic mood of the 90s. The trousers balance out the feminine lace with a touch of masculinity, whilst the mules perfectly finish off the look with minimal sophistication.

Look 02. Boudoir Dressing

The idea of actually wearing your pyjamas out of the house may sound intimidating, especially when they feature a bold, floral print like these stunning Dolce & Gabbana pyjama trousers. However, styling them here with a classic white blazer and a pair of simple yet elegant ballerina pumps makes the look both wearable and put-together. The Dior ‘so real’ sunglasses, which have been seen everywhere this season, pull together an ultra-glam outfit.

Look 03. Slip In

The third look is all about the slip dress. Adding a plain white T, transforms the risqué dress into an edgy daytime outfit. The chunky cardigan and white trainers contribute to the effortless style, as well as adding extra comfort (as if walking around in a nightie wasn’t comfortable enough).

How would you dare to try-out this season’s lingerie trend?
